The Megdanski Leventi, a musical duo featuring Aleksander Andonov from Nessebar, Bulgaria, and Georgi Dushev from Castelo de Rugat, Spain, will present a piece titled “A Walk Through The Shopluka” at the 11th annual “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance” festival. This event is scheduled to take place from May 15 to 17 at BMW Park in Munich, Germany. The 16-year-old musicians, both graduates of the renowned bagpipe teacher Petko Stoyanov in Nessebar, described their performance as embodying “music with a bright character, lively rhythm and genuine folk spirit.” They noted that their collaboration stems from a shared passion for Bulgarian folk music, maintaining their bond through online connection and treasured holiday meetings.
The duo also mentioned that the performance incorporates elements of humor, hoping to entertain the audience. The festival, which features amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria, is organized for and by the expatriate community. The initiative was initially launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025.
For the 11th iteration in Munich, organizers anticipate participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance exceeding 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event, providing coverage for all participating groups. The leventi are set to contribute their musical talents to this international gathering celebrating Balkan folklore.
