Of the Year 2025 Ceremony Highlights Bulgaria’s Strong Investment Growth, Innovation Focus

Bulgaria’s investment climate was characterized by growth, diversification, and a strategic focus on high-value sectors, according to insights presented at the 20th Investor of the Year awards. The event, hosted by the InvestBulgaria Agency (IBA) and marking its 30th anniversary, took place during a formal ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Sofia hotel. The top honor, Investor of the Year for 2025, was awarded to BTL Industries Bulgaria for a EUR 51 million investment in Plovdiv, which generated over 700 jobs.

The company, operational in Bulgaria since 1998, has expanded into BTL’s global production base, employing over 850 people and exporting medical devices to more than 120 countries. Leadership noted that the award acknowledged sustained development in Bulgaria, rather than solely the size of the investment, pointing to the country’s potential as a medical technology hub. President Iliana Iotova presented the award and the “Golden Bull” statuette to the company’s CEO, Veselin Karavasilev.

Iotova stated that investor activities bolster confidence in Bulgaria as a favorable business location. Other recognized investments spanned various sectors, including Intuitive Surgical Bulgaria’s greenfield project, Aero Technic BG’s aviation expansion, and Nestlé Bulgaria’s growth in the capital. During the ceremony, the InvestBulgaria Agency reported that foreign direct investment in Bulgaria surpassed EUR 800 million in the first two months of 2026, nearly doubling the figure from the same period in 2025.

Agency officials attributed this growth to Bulgaria’s macroeconomic stability, competitive tax system, and human capital. They emphasized the country’s goal to attract investment in manufacturing, ICT, and R&D, prioritizing projects that drive innovation and higher added value for the coming year.
