Centre at Azalia Hotel in Sts Constantine and Helena Resort Attracts Growing Interest from Dutch, Polish Guests

The spa centre at the Azalia Hotel in the Sts Constantine and Helena resort is seeing an increasing number of international visitors, including guests from the Netherlands and Poland, according to spa manager Nikolay Popov. He attributes this popularity to the facility’s utilization of natural healing resources, such as mineral water combined with seawater, lye, and therapeutic mud. Popov also highlighted the high satisfaction levels regarding the specialized staff, noting their extensive experience.

Balneological therapies are particularly sought after by individuals over 60, who commonly visit the centre for treatment of musculoskeletal issues, neurodegenerative diseases, herniated discs, and lower back pain. Complementing this, Lyubomir Stamboliyski, Commercial Director at Sts Constantine & Helena Holding AD, pointed to a growing trend of health focus among younger demographics. He noted that the average age of individuals seeking rehabilitation services is decreasing, moving from approximately 40–45 to 28–31.

Stamboliyski explained that the company’s service offerings are evolving beyond set packages toward individualized protocols, mirroring medical industry practices. These comprehensive programs guide clients on diet, physical activity, and the use of supplements, alongside traditional treatments using thermal water, mud, or specialized equipment. Developing these protocols involves external medical partners, with consultations available online.

The resort continues to attract visitors from Germany and the Czech Republic, reflecting a steady rise in interest in medical and spa tourism across the Balkans. BTA is actively promoting this sector through its “BG SPA: Salus per aquam” feature, which covers over 200 certified wellness facilities. This initiative is linked to the HEALTHXCHANGE SUMMIT in Varna in 2026, positioning the region as a growing destination for health tourism.
