Physicist Involved in NASA’s Artemis Missions Visits Bulgaria

Dr. Petko Dinev, a specialist in advanced imaging and photonics whose work has contributed to NASA’s Artemis I and Artemis II missions, visited Bulgaria on April 27 and 28 at the invitation of caretaker Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky. During the visit, the minister toured Sofia Tech Park, commending Dinev’s accomplishments as an example of Bulgaria’s growing role in modern space initiatives.

Neynsky noted that Dinev’s visit occurred against the backdrop of significant anniversaries in US-Bulgaria relations, including the 250th anniversary of the United States, the fifth anniversary of the renewal of the Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, and the 20th anniversary of the Defense Cooperation Agreement. She stated that these agreements provide a solid foundation for the strategic partnership between the two nations. The visit began at Sofia Tech Park, described by Neynsky as a center of global innovation in Bulgaria.

She highlighted the country’s significant potential in high technologies, citing assets such as the Discoverer+ supercomputer, the BRAIN++ artificial intelligence factory, and micro- and nanotechnology laboratories. The Foreign Minister asserted that these developments demonstrate Bulgaria’s capacity to strengthen its technological role and become an active global partner. She pointed to Bulgaria’s established strengths in engineering, its competitive IT sector, and its skilled workforce.

Neynsky emphasized the potential for deeper cooperation with the US in areas including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, microelectronics, and space technologies. Bulgaria expressed its commitment to advancing its close ties with the US through joint initiatives aimed at enhancing technological resilience.
