The Grand Hotel Veliko Tarnovo features a 2,000 sq. m spa centre utilizing mineralized water. The hotel, originally constructed between 1967 and 1981, underwent a complete renovation in 2025, updating its interior to a modern, elegant space while retaining its distinctive architecture.
This renovated hotel is positioned as an attractive venue for congress tourism, international events, team-building activities, and individual stays. The spa complex is equipped with an indoor swimming pool, a children’s pool, and three aquatonic pools. According to Desislava Dzhurova, sales and reservations manager, the facility offers extensive therapies, including classic and aroma steam baths, infrared, Finnish, and Himalayan cedar saunas, a hammam, a salt room, and various capsules.
Amenities also include a relaxation zone with heated loungers, a beach area, and a panoramic terrace. The pool water is mineralized with salts and purified with ozone filters, ensuring skin hydration and comfort. Nedko Nikolov, the spa centre manager, highlighted the flotation capsule, which uses a high concentration of magnesium salts to promote deep relaxation and aid in the absorption of minerals for muscle and joint relief.
Furthermore, the hotel’s location on the banks of the Yantra River in the city centre has an approved project to develop a pedestrian riverside zone, a new outdoor infinity pool, and a daytime bar overlooking the Asenevtsi Monument and Art Gallery in Tarnovo. BTA features news on certified spa, wellness, and medical spa centres across Bulgaria in its BG SPA: Salus per aquam, Health Through Water section. This initiative, a partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and the Bulgarian Union of Balneology and SPA Tourism, is connected to the HEALTHXCHANGE SUMMIT in 2026, where BTA will serve as the main media partner.
