The Change: We Are Very Far from Becoming One Party with Yes, Bulgaria

Nikolay Denkov, former prime minister and deputy leader of Continue the Change (CC), stated that the process of forming a single political entity with Yes, Bulgaria is premature. While acknowledging shared objectives with Yes, Bulgaria, Denkov noted that the parties differ significantly on the methods required to achieve those goals. CC, alongside Yes, Bulgaria and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, has operated as a coalition since 2023, although a formal agreement remains absent.

Last week, the National Council of Yes, Bulgaria reportedly tasked the party with developing a formal coalition agreement and a roadmap for a unified political front. Denkov criticized the two alternatives put forth, describing them as overly extreme: either creating a joint party at the behest of Yes, Bulgaria, or initiating a complete separation. He argued that the proposed common party structure would unduly limit their voter base to only 6-7% support within major cities.

The deputy leader clarified that the objective is not a dissolution, but rather a model of cooperation that allows each political faction to develop its unique strengths. He confirmed that the parties have already reached an understanding to nominate a joint candidate for the upcoming presidential elections. When questioned about the possibility of CC and Yes, Bulgaria forming separate parliamentary groups, Denkov deferred the decision to the respective Members of Parliament.

This commentary followed statements from Yes, Bulgaria co-leaders Ivaylo Mirchev and Bozhidar Bozhanov, who maintained that the electorate in Bulgaria desires a consolidation into a unified political project.
