By mid-April 2026, reports indicate a reduction in the overall number of workplace accidents, according to the General Labour Inspectorate Executive Director. Data shows that 126 workplace accidents have been recorded to date, a decrease from the 157 reported during the same period in 2025. Fatal incidents also declined, registering 26 cases compared to 36 in the preceding year.
Furthermore, non-traumatic fatal incidents decreased to 14 in 2026, down from 19 in the corresponding period of 2025. According to the Inspectorate, 90% of workplace accidents are preventable through adherence to occupational safety rules. Primary causes cited include falls from height, being trapped, crushing injuries, and being struck by falling objects.
As of mid-April 2026, construction, crop and livestock farming, metal product manufacturing, and trade remain the high-risk sectors. Increased inspection efforts in construction have shown positive results, with reported accidents dropping from 12 in mid-April 2025 to six in April 2026. Notably, land transport saw a significant reduction, reporting zero accidents in 2026, compared to four, including one fatality, in 2025.
The Director emphasized that employers hold full responsibility for maintaining safe working environments. She stressed that safety consciousness must be continuous, not limited to specific observance days
