Three days of commemorations honoring the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced in Panagyurishte on Thursday. The initial events featured the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative, which involved children and youth from various parts of the globe submitting video messages. This was followed by a theatrical performance based on Stefan Tsanev’s work, Children of the World.
During an address, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov thanked all attendees for their commitment to preserving historical memory. He stated that the collective participation demonstrated a connection to something greater than the individual, emphasizing the spirit of Bulgaria. Among the notable guests present were Kiril Valchev, Director General of BTA; Milen Mitev, Director General of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR); Professor Georgi Valchev, Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia; and Boyko Vassilev, a journalist and presenter for the Bulgarian National Television’s Panorama show.
Earlier in the day, participants attended a dedicated conference organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum, focusing specifically on the 150th anniversary of the Uprising. The celebrations continued throughout the day, culminating in a large “Flamesshow” held at the 20 April Square in Panagyurishte. The events successfully brought together community members and cultural figures, connecting the local history of Panagyurishte with a broader, global appreciation for the movement’s significance.
