Folk Dance Troupe from Hamburg Prepares for Travelling Festival in Munich

The RitmiKKa folk dance troupe from Hamburg, Germany, is set to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, scheduled to take place in Munich from May 15 to 17. The troupe will present a specific dance piece originally choreographed by Zahari Andreev approximately sixty years ago. Kamen Kunev, the headmaster and choreographer for the group, stated that the selection of this particular performance reflects a commitment to preserving the work of past artistic legends.

He emphasized the enduring nature of such cultural expressions, noting that the dance embodies the communal spirit of a village square. Kunev elaborated that the performance aims to illustrate unity, mirroring the traditional gathering of people around a village fire with music and dance, regardless of geographical location. The group’s preparations included an entire season of intensive rehearsals to perfect every detail of the routine.

Furthermore, the troupe will debut in new costumes designed specifically for the festival by fashion designer Nikolay Kolev. The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival supports amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria. The initiative was established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which has hosted previous editions.

The upcoming 11th edition in Munich is anticipated to host over 100 dance ensembles and more than 4,000 attendees. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is serving as the official media partner for the event.
