BTL Industries Bulgaria was named Investor of the Year 2025 at the 20th awards ceremony organized by the InvestBulgaria Agency (IBA). During the event, Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova presented the award and the “Golden Bull” statuette to the company’s CEO, Veselin Karavasilev, at the Hyatt Regency Sofia hotel. The recognition was based on BTL Industries Bulgaria’s EUR 51 million investment in Plovdiv in 2025, which resulted in the creation of over 700 jobs within the country’s industries.
Operating in Bulgaria since 1998, the company maintains a research and development center in Sofia and employs over 850 people, positioning it as a major employer in the Plovdiv region. BTL Industries exports medical devices to over 120 countries across six continents. Karavasilev noted that the award recognized not only the investment size but also the company’s sustained commitment to Bulgaria.
He stated that after entering the market in 1998 with plans for a sales office, the favorable economic climate and skilled Bulgarian workforce allowed the company to become BTL’s sole global production base 28 years later. He added that over 40,000 devices are shipped annually from Bulgaria, suggesting the nation holds potential as a leading medical device manufacturer. Other major recipients at the ceremony included Intuitive Surgical Bulgaria, which received the Greenfield Investment award for its EUR 42 million investment in Parvomay, creating over 170 jobs.
Aero Technic BG won the Human Capital award for its EUR 15.85 million investment in Sofia, creating 125 jobs. Nestle Bulgaria received the Business Expansion Investment award for a EUR 44.63 million investment in Sofia and 119 new jobs. Festo Bulgaria was recognized with the Innovative Business award for its EUR 40 million investment across three locations, generating 140 jobs.
The Investor of the Year initiative highlights companies contributing to Bulgaria’s economic development, job creation, and sustainable growth. The event also recognized other contributors across various sectors within the Bulgarian industries.
